The Motorola Xoom tablet on Verizon Wireless represents the next generation in tablet. With its 1GHz dual-core processor, the Xoom has the fastest internals of any tablet available today. While this is an impressive take by Apple, this is a big slip of 95.5% it took in the 3rd quarter to Androids 2.3%. Most of these Android Tablet sales are presumed to be the Galaxy Tab. Just wait till the Xoom comes out. I’ll be first to predict that before 2011 is over Apple will have less than 50% of the market with a big chunk of the Android market being taken by the Motorola Xoom.

According to Motorola CEO SanjayJha, the Motorola Xoom Tablet is on schedule to be released in late February, although there is a slight possibility it could be delayed until March. Also, he confirmed that the 4G LTE upgrade is on track to be rolled out in the 2nd quarter. Save your pennies folks, looks like it’s almost here.

It will come with 32gb internal memory which should make it competitive with the iPad 32gb wifi/3g model. No word yet on how cheap the Xoom will be when purchased with a verizon wireless plan. Expect several hundred off this price though.

With Motorola having exclusive first dibs for the Android 3.0 Honeycomb software, HTC will reportedly install Android 2.3 on the device but upgrade it when 3.0 is available. This is shaping up to be one big battle of the tablets.

The same report has Research in Motion ordering 1 million Playbook tablets for the same time period. This looks like it is shaping up to be quite a battle. My bet would be on the Xoom.
